Hartley’s Helmet Diving offers one of Bermuda’s most distinctive underwater adventures, allowing visitors to walk along the ocean floor and experience the island’s spectacular marine life without requiring scuba certification or advanced swimming skills. Operating from the Royal Naval Dockyard, Hartley’s has been introducing guests to Bermuda’s underwater world since 1947, making it one of the island’s longest-running marine attractions.
During this unique undersea walk, guests wear a specially designed diving helmet supplied with air from the boat above. The helmet features a large viewing window and allows participants to breathe normally while walking along the sandy seabed in shallow water. The experience typically includes a boat ride to the reef, a briefing, equipment preparation, and approximately 30–40 minutes underwater.
One of the highlights is the opportunity to get remarkably close to Bermuda’s colorful tropical fish and coral reef environment. Guests may even interact with some of the friendly resident fish while learning about the surrounding marine ecosystem from experienced guides.
Hartley’s Helmet Diving is an excellent choice for families, couples, cruise passengers, and first-time underwater explorers seeking something different from traditional snorkeling or scuba diving. With no scuba lessons required, it provides an accessible and memorable way to discover Bermuda beneath the surface.
