The Caribbean Manatee Conservation Center is an alliance established in 2009 on the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico to help manatees and other marine animals survive extinction. This alliance was created between the non-governmental organization Caribbean Stranding Network and the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico to implement research, rescue, rehabilitation and community outreach programs for the conservation of marine life.
Its scope of action is not limited to manatees and Puerto Rico; it also works with dolphins, whales, seals, sea turtles and pelicans throughout the Caribbean.
These works are carried out under federal and Commonwealth of Puerto Rico permits, granted by the US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), US Department of Agriculture, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA-APHIS) and the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources of Puerto Rico.
